Taking care of ourselves

Nobody likes it when they are sick. We eat right, try to alleviate stress and exercise. We do yoga, pilate's and eat tofu as well as veggies , yet it still happens to the best of us. Many times we wonder why?

Today, I got my daily motivator from Mr. Ralph Marston and the title was "Treasure the Experience" . In a nutshell the daily reminder advised us to let go of control. He talked about possibilities that we end up not seeing because of our need for dominance and control over the issue. We are connected beyond our physical senses, but we continually want more. The reminder finishes up by saying that good things will become abundant in your life as soon as you step aside from needing them.

You may be asking , "Chad, how in the hell does that have anything to do with getting sick?". Well when you are sick, it is your body's way of letting you know that there is a little bug inside of you that has weakened your immune system. Many times we want to control the "sickness" and take medicine x or medicine Y because we heard that it helps with symptoms 1,2 and 3. The truth of the matter is that we don't take physical inventory when we are sick. We don't treasure the experience by admiring how our body has this amazing ability to return to equilibrium. Bodies don't like "dis" ease, they like to be at ease.

When we are sick, we focus on getting better by taking medicines, boosting up the vitamin C, start taking zinc and sleeping to Nyquil. Rather than focus on these things, I say, embrace the experience. Imagine yourself getting better after a few days, visualize your immune system coming to the rescue and kicking the cold bugs ass. Move about when you are ready and feel better. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe you needed to get sick to regroup or in a small sense refresh. Maybe you just needed out of the office for a few days.

The bottom line is that whether you are healthy, or sick, you should embrace the experience. Loose control for a while to allow your body to heal. The more obsessed you become about getting the result that you desire (not being sick) keeps that ultimate result from being realized (being in good health).

Until next time...
