So it has become glaringly obvious that I needed to do this post. With each passing day over the two weeks I have heard numerous stories about good friends being let go from work and "not knowing whats next". I shared with them, "if we knew what was next, we wouldn't be living now would we". The biggest idea I have heard from people is that they don't know what is next, or who they are without their work. I always challenge them to see the beauty in change.
This quote by Marianne Williamson resonated so loudly this morning as I woke up to find another friend out of work, depressed and confused.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I know this is an old one, but I would like to focus on the significance of what I think this means to many of us. With regards to the first two lines, we are afraid of success. We have been brought up in a culture of fear so we walk around with a sheath of doubt around our entire being. We think and feel we are not good enough and do not deserve the good things that others have. We doubt our "greatness" on a the daily. We feel we should not boast an aire of confidence, but rather a shell of meekness. Nothing could be further from the truth. Self confidence and self love will get you more jobs, more dates and more of everything that your life is lacking.
A good friend Scott and I went out last night, and it was rejection central. We probably got shot down 100 times, even after starting the night out saying, tonight is going to be a good night. Scott and I were laughing and talking about it over an early morning breakfast. I told him, I think the message can't be lost. We talked about how it didn't change our inner being and that we are both awesome, it just happened that last night was not the night of "flow" as I like to call it. We both agreed that it is part of the ebb and flow of life. How one day things seem like we are surfing the best wave in the world and the next, we are getting barreled. Its the beauty of the life cycle. If it were all crests, we wouldn't know how to deal with coming up from getting pummeled by the waves. Appreciate the when the energy is not there and most importantly NEVER EVER forget how great, perfect and wonderful you are!
The second part of the quote deals with, to me, the ability to be yourself. We are all meant to shine, but we somehow have misplaced "shining" with cockiness. Nothing is further than the truth. Guys are very guilty of this. We compliment the other person, while putting ourselves down to make the other person feel good. My good friend, Shawn who I love dearly always says that everyone is beautiful and that we all shine our own light. He lifts up everyone at a moment's notice and doesn't like the negative speak we surround ourselves with. Be bold, be beautiful and be yourself. When we shine, unconsciously we give others the ability to shine as well. I have always been an advocate of lifting those up around me. I shine as brightly as possible and encourage others to do the same. As we are liberated from our fears (and step into love, the opposite of fear), we allow others to feel liberated, free and loved.
So as you start this day, this week or this next chapter in your life. Go boldly, go passionately and know that you are brilliance and perfection in human form. You don't need anything to make you better. Accept you, for you, in you and let your greatness flow. Believe in the process and trust that you are exactly where you need to be in life at this moment. "Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright, its not the end"
Go greatly into that world and let your light shine and know that you offer your own gifts to the world. You don't need to be like this person or that person because you are YOU! One of a kind and brighter than any star in the sky! Trust the process and love the ones who love you and lift you up. Spend your time there
Here to help! Until next time...
